S: Bird found with fluid line wrapped loosely and tangled around L leg on AM check.

O: Removed tangled fluid line but when trying to remove all the gorilla tape on top of the figure-8 wrap to disconnect bird ended up pulling IO catheter out completely. Held pressure to bleeding site, small bruise post catheter removal. Removed figure-8 wrap on this wing. Changed wrap on R wing - open wounds on either side of fracture site, fracture site unstable on palpation. No visible bone seen through either wound site. Covered opened wounds with SSD, telfa and tegaderm and replaced splint and metacarpal wrap. Open wound present at the R commissure of the mouth. Very mild scabbing on top of the head. Bird acting visual OU, no stain uptake, good PLRS, mild chorioretinal scarring OU. Bird struggled a little bit with meds and tubing, kept trying to pit up meds and shaking head.

A: Bird not tolerating catheter - gave a smaller amount of SQ fluids to see if bird will absorb this or if need to try another catheter method. Metacarpal fracture is a simple fracture in good alignment so may do well without surgery, but concerned for open wounds and risk of infection that could interfere with healing.

P: Monitor for fluid absorption to see if bird can be switched to SQ fluids as not tolerating catheter well. Change wing wrap on R wing EOD.

O: Collected fecal sample. Rechecked temperature. Removed R figure 8 wrap, splint, bandages. Moderate exudate absorbed on telfa padding. Cleaned wounds to R metacarpals w dilute chlorhex. Did not find exposed bone. Area is edematous and pale. Plucked more feathers from area, cleaned, reapplied manuka/hydrogel mixture, recovered with telfa/tega, and reapplied splint with figure 8 wrap. Drew blood from R medial metatarsal vein - very watery and thin in appearance. Bird destroyed popsicle sticks on L IO catheter overnight but catheter appears untouched and in place, no indication of improper flow. Replaced sticks and top of wrap. Wound in mouth static. Noted additional patch of missing feathers just cranial to OD, mild abrasion present. Gave IM and oral meds. Tubed emeraid. Mouth very pale and foamy. Turned incubator back up to 100.

Radiographic findings: Fractures of Metacarpus major and minor bones.
Initial treatment: 0.17cc torb; 0.08cc iron; 0.02cc Vitamin B; 0.32cc Liver support; 0.17cc Baytril

A: Patient has strike through puncture wound over R metacarpals, suspect gunshot. Inability to fly has caused emaciation. Concerned for open wound over fracture site, did not see major bone exposure when cleaning wounds. Prognosis is poor based on severity of emaciation and potential infection getting into the bones at fracture site. Vitals have stabilized on heat and oxygen support.

P: Change R figure 8 wrap/metacarpal bandages SID. Rx liver support, Vitamin B, Baytril, emeraid. Collect blood and fecal 12/7. Vet check 12/8. Monitor temp.
